Sella Ronda by car: four passes around the Sella massif

The loop at a glance

The Sella Ronda circles the Sella massif: four passes, about 55 kilometres and three provinces – South Tyrol, Belluno and Trentino. By car, Selva (Wolkenstein) in Val Gardena is the ideal starting point. From Brixen you get there in about an hour via the Eisack Valley and Val Gardena.

Including the drive there and back you cover roughly 150 kilometres – exactly the day package. If you want more time for photos and a lunch stop in Corvara or Arabba, take the weekend package and drive the loop early in the morning.

The route

  1. Brixen – Val Gardena: Via Klausen and Ponte Gardena into Val Gardena, past Ortisei to Selva.
  2. Passo Gardena (2,121 m): Short, rhythmic hairpins beneath the north faces of the Sella. A quick stop at the top, then down to Colfosco and Corvara.
  3. Passo Campolongo (1,875 m): The gentlest of the four – flowing bends from Corvara over to Arabba.
  4. Passo Pordoi (2,239 m): Long, open hairpins up from Arabba. At the top the view opens towards the Marmolada.
  5. Passo Sella (2,244 m): On the descent towards Canazei the road to Passo Sella branches off. At the top Sassolungo and Sassopiatto sit right in front of the bonnet, then it's back down to Selva.
  6. Return: Through Val Gardena back to Brixen – or as a weekend with a night in the valley.

Tips for the drive

  • Start early. Before 9 am the passes are at their quietest. From midday coaches, motorbikes and cyclists arrive.
  • Check the Sellaronda Bike Day. On one day in June and one in September the four passes are closed to cars.
  • Fill up in the valley. Super Plus 100 in Brixen or Val Gardena before you start.
  • Photo stops only in car parks. Never stop in hairpins or on the carriageway.
  • Watch the weather. All four passes are above 1,800 m. On wet roads the Lotus stays in – we move your date free of charge.

Routes are non-binding recommendations. Please check road conditions, closures and weather before you set off. Permitted area: South Tyrol, Trentino and the province of Belluno.
